Project Summary
Uhuona is a remote village in Nkanu East LGA in Enugu State. There is a high rate of poverty among its residents who are mostly small-scale farmers and petty traders.
We know that education is not a priority in such difficult living conditions. Children are made to farm or hawk to support the family.
It was in this situation that UDOF intervened for 15 children who wished to get an education but had no means. Some of them were at risk of dropping out of school because their struggling parents could not cope. Others lived with their poor widowed mothers or aged grandmothers.
We offered them full scholarships for their primary education and you could see the excitement on the faces of the children and parents. We believe that through the power of education, these children will grow up to transform their families and community.
